Nokia N9(Review)-The First MeeGo Smartphone

Nokia N9 is a masterpiece smartphone from Nokia, and is the first smartphone device using the MeeGo Platform. 

Design : The Nokia N9 look fashionable with some bright color options, made of polycarbonate material, which has a minimalist design. There are no hardware buttons on the front, and there is only the volume and lock buttons, on the right side, so to navigate, users will use the full finger touch gestures, such as sliding and double tap.

The Nokia N9 has dimension of  116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm and weighs around 135 grams make the device very comfortable in the hand grip. On the back of the phone there is an 8MP camera Carl Zeiss optics lens with dual LED flash for lighting, and decorated with chrome frame as well as the Nokia Logo, so it looks more attractive.

On the upper side there is a micro USB port and micro SIM slot, both equipped with a cover. In the left corner there is a 3.5mm audio hole, to connect your Headset, while on the down side there are small holes that serves as a speaker sound out

Basically, the phone is thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S2, but still thinner than the iPhone 4, while for its shape, has a simple design and still elegant.

Screen and UI : The Nokia N9 come with 3.9” AMOLED clear black, so even though, under the blazing sun will still be seen clearly, capable to produced 854 x 480 pixels resolution with 16.7m colors and protected by Gorilla Glass which makes it resistant to shocks and scratches.

The Nokia N9 run on MeeGo1.2 Harmattan operaring system and has a user interface that consists of 3 different pages. On the first page contains the menus of the application icons, which has round shape like the Nokia smartphone using the Symbian OS Belle.The second page is a page on multitasking that can display 4 or 9 applications at once in one page. 

On the third page is the page feeds, which can display the weather can be set according to the location we want, In addition, there are feeds from all the accounts we have added previously such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other. All pages of this interface is equipped with timing information, wifi connectivity, bluetooth, operator and battery power remaining.

Camera : The Nokia N9 equipped with 8 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss optics, capable to produced up to 3264x2448 pixels photos resolutions, with 6 Scene that we can choose such as automatic, Macro, Landscape, Potrait, Night, and Sports. Interestingly, also can adjust the aspect ratio camera, that would affect the sharpness of images that can be produced, with three setting choices: 16:9 (max 7MP), 4:3 (max 8MP) 3:2 (max 7MP)

For video recording, the device is capable of producing 720p HD quality video, in MP4 format and has several Scene settings such as Automatic and Video at Night, White Balance setting, Exposure Compensation, Color filter and Resolution (High 720p, Medium WVGA, Low VGA).

Performance : The Nokia N9 powered by 1 GHz Cortex A8 chipset TI OMAP 3630, with PowerVR SGX530 GPU, whose performance is also supported by 1GB of ram memory. In terms of typing, photography, video access, browser, and play games these devices can also be reliable and ready to compete with other smartphones in its class.

Nokia provides 16GB up to 64GB internal memory, for storing user files such as songs, videos, photos, games, apps, etc, and has a Li-Ion 1450 mAh battery who claimed to be able to use for up to 6.5 hours talk time and 420 hours standby in 3G mode.

Connectivity : Nokia N9 work on 2G Quad band and 3G Penta-band GSM/WCDMA, supports up to 10.2 Mbps HSDPA network/HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and also has a Near Field Communications (NFC) which allows to transfer data between devices with close proximity, also be used as a payment device. 

To transfer data with a PC can be through the microUSB port with a data cable. The Nokia N9 can also be used as WiFi hotspots device with a maximum of five devices.
